AIARE Avalanche Rescue Course
Avalanche companion rescue course is a stand alone one day avalanche rescue course that is meant to be retaken on a regular basis to keep up to date on current rescue techniques and gear. It is also a prerequisite for Level 2 avalanche courses and the Pro 1 avalanche courses. Avalanche rescue training is essential for any backcountry winter traveler who will be in or near avalanche terrain.
Join us for our AIARE Avalanche Rescue Course, designed for professional and recreational snow sport enthusiasts. This is a stand alone course for those looking to become proficient with all avalanche rescue techniques. This course is a great refresher for the seasoned backcountry vet or the brand new backcountry traveler. This comprehensive course covers topics such as one to one rescue techniques, group rescue techniques, multiple burials, what to do after an avalanche, rescue shelters and much more. Led by the most experienced guides and instructors in the industry. Participants will gain the knowledge and confidence needed to make proper decisions when things go wrong and a life is on the line. Whether you're a seasoned backcountry traveler or just starting out, this course will assist in making you a more valuable backcountry partner. We don’t expect things to go wrong in the backcountry, but if they do, having a solid foundation can save a life.

Itinerary
Day 1: Meet your Instructor at the proposed location. Go over the Itinerary for the day. Spend the day out working through Single burial tactics, Multiple burial tactics, Deep burial tactics, Team rescue tactics, Strategic Shoveling, Proper probing and probe lines, How to activate EMS, Shelter building, Assessing whether to stay put or evacuate, Rescue gear to carry on a tour, and much more.
Prerequisites
Must have previous experience touring with your backcountry equipment. If you do not, please check out our Introduction to Backcountry Skiing course.

Avalanche Rescue Gear List
Avalanche Safety Gear & Packs
Avalanche safety equipment—including a transceiver, shovel, probe, and a ski day pack—is available to borrow for this course at no additional cost. If you plan to borrow any of these items, please indicate your needs in the pre-trip questionnaire linked in your booking confirmation.
Skis, Splitboards, & Boots
We do not rent skis, splitboards, boots, or skins. If you need to rent touring equipment for your course, we recommend renting from our partners at Tahoe Mountain Sports in Truckee. You will be provided a discount code in your booking confirmation email after booking.
