Berner Oberland Ski Tour

The Berner Oberland is the classic high-alpine traverse through the heart of the Swiss Alps. We believe this is the skiers haute route as there is a lot less traversing and a lot more big ups followed by large descents.

The Berner Oberland is a breathtaking world of icefields, towering 4,000-meter peaks, and remote glaciated terrain. It’s home to one of the most scenic and sought-after ski traverses in the Alps.

This high-altitude hut-to-hut tour begins in the iconic village of Grindelwald, beneath the towering north faces of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. From there, we ascend onto the Aletsch Glacier, the largest glacier in the Alps and spend six unforgettable days traveling across a dramatic landscape of expansive glaciers, deep valleys, and sharp alpine peaks.

Led by Valhalla Mountain Guides’ certified IFMGA guides, this trip offers a world-class ski mountaineering experience, combining challenging ascents, exhilarating descents, and the comfort of warm, well-catered Swiss huts each night.

Day 1 – Arrival in Grindelwald + Train to Jungfraujoch + Tour to Konkordia Hut

  • Elevation gain: ~2,000 ft

  • Distance: ~5–6 miles

Meet your guide in Grindelwald, then take the world-famous Jungfraujoch railway—Europe’s highest train—to the glacier station at 11,330 ft. From here, we step into skis and descend onto the massive Aletsch Glacier. After roping up, we skin up to Konkordiaplatz, a dramatic convergence of glaciers.

Night: Konkordia Hut (9,240 ft) – Perched high above the glacier via a series of ladders, this is one of the most scenic huts in the Alps.

  • Elevation gain: ~2,500 ft

  • Descent: ~1,200 ft

  • Distance: ~6–7 miles

A classic glacier day. We ascend through the Grünhornlücke col (10,800 ft), with optional detour to the Wyssnollen (11,150 ft) for excellent views and skiing. A long, mellow descent leads us to the Hollandia Hut, tucked under steep rock walls at the edge of the Lötschenlücke.
